Name-Based Crawford Case Searches
Odyssey Public Access, commonly called MyCase, is Indiana's free public search layer. Choose the Name tab and set the Court filter to Crawford County. An individual search needs a last name plus at least a first name, middle name, or birth date. A business search works best with the exact organization name stored in the case. Sounds-like matching and a trailing wildcard can help, but each may widen the result set sharply.
- Open MyCase and choose the Name tab.
- Enter the last name and one more identifier, or the exact business name.
- Select Crawford County, then narrow by category, status, or filing dates.
- Compare the case number, court, file date, type, and party roles before opening a result.
Common names need care. The result ceiling is 1,000, so a broad query may hide the case sought. Add a first name, birth date, court, or file-date window instead of paging through uncertain matches. A party role also matters. Plaintiff, defendant, petitioner, and respondent describe a person's connection to the case, not the result.
The captured MyCase public search shows the official starting point for these fields.
Use that state screen as a locator, then verify significant details with the Crawford clerk.
| Field Label | Type | Required | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Last | Text | Yes | Pair with first, middle, or birth date |
| Business / Organization | Text | Alternative | Use the exact stored name when possible |
| Court and Category | Selector | No | Crawford County; Criminal, Civil, Family, or Probate |
| Status and File Date | Selector/date | No | All, Open, or Closed; dates use mm/dd/yyyy |
Crawford MyCase Search Tabs
MyCase provides three distinct routes. Name locates parties and organizations. Case accepts one case number, citation number, or cross-reference at a time. Attorney accepts a lawyer's last name with other name details, or an attorney bar number. Mixing identifiers in the wrong tab can produce no result even when the public case exists.
- Name
- Finds public cases tied to a person or organization.
- Case
- Uses an exact cause, citation, or cross-reference value.
- Attorney
- Finds cases linked to counsel of record; a bar number is most exact.
The category checkboxes reduce noise but do not redefine a case. Crawford County results may sit under Criminal & Citation, Civil, Family, or Probate. Read the type and subtype shown on the result. Do not choose a category solely because a dispute sounds civil in everyday speech.
Indiana also publishes the short MyCase address for direct access.
Both official addresses reach the same statewide public case-search service.
Crawford Case Number Searches
A Crawford Circuit Court cause number follows 13C01-YYMM-XX-######. The first two digits identify Crawford County, C01 identifies its Circuit Court, YYMM marks the filing year and month, XX is the Rule 8 case-type code, and the last six digits are the sequence. The Case tab is the cleanest search route when this number is known.
Official search tips allow a case-number search with some hyphens or leading zeroes omitted. Still, start with the full value from a notice or order. Citation Number and Cross Reference are separate Case-tab fields. Enter only one. A citation number comes from the ticket, while a cross-reference may be an agency or older identifier linked in Odyssey.
Crawford Search Filters Compared
Advanced options control both scope and volume. Status can be All, Open, or Closed. Filing dates use From and To fields, and the first date cannot come after the second. A narrow date window can separate people with the same name, but it should be the filing period, not the hearing date.
| Filter | Useful when | Watch for |
|---|---|---|
| Criminal & Citation | Charge, infraction, or citation case | Does not include every civil protection matter |
| Civil | Collection, tort, eviction, or small claim | Family and probate have their own boxes |
| Open / Closed | Separating active and ended cases | Status may not state the actual outcome |
| File dates | Reducing common-name results | These are not hearing dates |
Repeated broad searches may trigger CAPTCHA. Indiana describes that check as a safeguard against data mining. It is not a denial of docket access. Use a current browser, pause repetitive searches, and refine the query.
The judiciary's MyCase search tips explain the supported narrowing methods.
Those tips are especially useful for cause numbers, wildcards, and common-name searches.
Crawford Case Search Results Explained
A result row shows enough data to distinguish possible matches: case number, court, file date, status and status date, type or subtype, style, party labels, and flags for attorneys or charges. Open the row to reach the Case Summary. That view adds the header, party connections, attorney links, chronological Events, hearing settings, charges or civil subtype, disposition, financial fields, bonds where applicable, cross-references, and related cases.
| Case Number | Local cause number such as 13C01-YYMM-XX-###### |
|---|---|
| Style / Parties | Caption and public party roles, subject to access limits |
| Case Type | Rule 8 code and subtype for criminal, civil, family, or probate work |
| Events | Chronological filings, orders, notices, settings, and results |
| Status | Portal state such as Pending or Decided, with a status date |
An event label does not promise a downloadable image. Some entries identify a document and page count while withholding the file from the public audience. Likewise, Decided does not say whether a charge was dismissed, a plea entered, or a civil judgment issued. Read the later order or disposition event. For a certified result, current balance, or legal deadline, contact the clerk.
The official MyCase help page describes the portal's role and limits.
Its guidance reinforces the line between a public case summary and the clerk's official file.
When Crawford Results Are Missing
No result is not proof that no case exists. Older converted data may be thin. A public filing may lack an image. The name may be stored under a different spelling, and the court or date filter may be too tight. Remove one filter at a time, try the full cause number, and confirm that Crawford County is selected.
For older material, the clerk and Indiana State Library holdings are stronger paths than repeated portal queries. Parties and attorneys may also have document access that the anonymous public view lacks. The public docket remains a useful index, while the clerk's maintained file is authoritative.
Indiana's document-access explanation shows why availability differs by user and record.
A missing download button should therefore lead to the clerk, not to a claim that the document does not exist.
Crawford County and State Search
Crawford County does not operate a separate public docket database. MyCase is both the statewide search layer and the online Crawford County route. Select Crawford County to narrow the same system to Crawford Circuit Court. The Clerk of the Circuit Court supplies the local, official fallback for documents and facts that the public view does not provide.
| Statewide Portal | Crawford County Clerk |
|---|---|
| All Odyssey courts or a selected county | Crawford Circuit Court clerk file |
| Public Case Summary and selected documents | Official file, public copies, and certification |
| Best for online name, case, citation, or attorney searches | Best for missing images, older files, current settings, and certified copies |
The Crawford County court schedule offers a second statewide tool, Court Calendar, but it finds hearings within a limited date window rather than a full case history. Indiana e-filing is different again. Certified service providers send filings into Odyssey; the e-filing account is not the general public search.
No Crawford Municipal Search
The inspected MyCase selector lists Crawford County but no Crawford city or town court. The current Court Calendar and Rule 8 court-code sources also point to Crawford Circuit Court as the county's one trial-court node. A local ticket can still name an issuing town or another legal venue, so read the citation before choosing a court.
If a ticket fails to resolve, call the issuing town or the clerk rather than inventing a municipal docket. This distinction matters across Alton, English, Leavenworth, Marengo, and Milltown. Their public state-court cases generally route through the county entry, but each citation controls its own venue.
Crawford Results Need Context
Portal labels are compact database terms. Pending may describe a case waiting for service, a filing, a hearing, or a final order. Decided marks a status, but the chronological events reveal whether the operative act was a judgment, dismissal, plea, sentence, or another order. A case-type code classifies the file and does not establish fault or guilt.
Financial fields can lag, and public party or attorney details may be reduced under access rules. For a current balance, binding deadline, certified disposition, or confirmed hearing, use the Clerk of the Circuit Court. The search result is strongest as a map to the cause number and event history.
Which Crawford Cases Stay Restricted
Indiana's Rules on Access to Court Records govern the public view. Adoption and mental-health records are confidential. Juvenile matters, expunged records, sealed cases, and older paternity files may be excluded or show limited identifying data. Protection-order matters use special controls, including Indiana's official Protection Order Search where appropriate.
Do not infer facts about a protected person from an absent result. Access by a party or attorney depends on the proper account and access code. A request for confidential material must follow the court's rules and any order in the case. Public access means the right to inspect eligible records. It does not override a seal, statutory confidentiality, or a judge's access ruling.
The state provides a separate Protection Order Search with its own controlled purpose.
Use that official channel when appropriate and respect every restriction on identifying information.
